Hi, I’ve been down a few times and spoke to some of you today, I’d like to volunteer to help with the website / online stuff generally. Also like to come and sing / play.
see you
Harriet
Hi Harriet,
Thanks a million for this message and so sorry we’ve been slow to reply… Christmas madness followed by the chaos of taking camp down have meant we’ve not had much time and there’s not been going much with the website these past few weeks. But we have a working group that’s just getting busy trying to get it all updated. And we have lots of actions, news and events to keep people updated about. It will be great to have more people on board! Sorry again for being so slow. Please leave a message on the group facebook page if you can and we will add you to our web working group discussions there.
Following on from the idea of the camp acting as the promotional tool and the website(s) as the long term forum.
I suggest an organisation of the website front end or introduction page(s) to allow a flow of information, from the basic premise and main agenda issues through to more in depth analysis and discussion, and then expansion through many the individual issues connected with the core agenda. The introduction should provide clarity and reasoning for a first time viewer, to avoid anyone being swamped with disjointed information and possibly missing the fundamental issues. Thus, avoiding unnecessary miscommunication and loss of recognition of the situation that our global society is faced with.
My view and support of the occupy movement’s core agenda is centred on the connected issues of, inequality in the distribution of wealth, and the waste and depletion of finite natural resources.
Our current economic systems are unsustainable. The initial task for us all is to recognise the problem, rather than continue a blinkered following of a self serving and self protecting leadership of corporate interest and political short termism. A short termist political position that will only change if enough people continually raise these issues and point to the evidence.
I initially recommend 2 sites of reference:
http://www.equalitytrust.org.uk
(and particularly a book promoted on this site: The Spirit Level by Richard Wilkinson & Kate Pickett)
http://www.energybulletin.net
(and particularly a series of videos that explain our economic, energy and environmental situation:
http://www.chrismartenson.com/crashcourse)
These 2 sites provide a wealth of information (and links) on what I see as the issues to be promoted onto the agenda for our politicians and, by necessity, global influences.
Hi David,
Thanks for all your really useful ideas, and sorry we’ve been so slow replying – we’ve been busy dealing with taking camp down and planning next steps. But we are trying to get the website overhauled to reflect new ideas and events, and it would be great to have your input. If you can please leave a message on our facebook page and we’ll add you to our online working group discussions, there and here. And we’ll be really happy to start implementing some of your suggestions! Cheers
